And just like that, the infighting of the Democratic party over the need for President Biden to drop out of the race is over.
I’m not sure WHY, though. Two weeks ago, 79% of Americans thought Joe Biden was not fit enough to run for president this time around.
The narrative immediately following the first presidential debate was focused on the president’s cognitive decline. His wife’s treatment at the after party did not help.
But the key here was that the media was fairly monolithic in its reversal. They went from (essentially) “covering for” the president – to feigning shock at how bad his mental acuity was.
Don’t get me wrong, there were all the excuses – including jet lag and a cold, (it was just “a bad night”) for Biden’s “disastrous performance” in the debate, but to those of us who knew Biden has been mis-naming heads of state, talking about dead people as though they are still living, mixing up names, reading even the stage directions from the teleprompter, and randomly wandering off (not to mention that he was considered mentally unfit to stand trial), there was nothing surprising about his performance at the debate – other than perhaps he did BETTER than we thought he would.
We already knew he was not running the country. And again, rank and file Democrats should be furious that they don’t know who is truly the head of their party (or the “leader of the free world") because it should now be clear to even them that it is not Joseph Biden.
But instead of being angry, many are justifying his candidacy because he has already proven he can “beat Trump.”
Even though the polling following the debate says that is not true this time around.
I mean, not only did 75% of registered voters (poll) believe Biden is unfit to be president, Senators and House Reps from his own party started saying he should step down from the presidency or at least resign his candidacy.
Those in leadership, politicos and media spin doctors started floating possible scenarios.
But the key here is the media narrative. We go from comments like “he’s as sharp as ever” to article after article of panic and fear, interviewers admitting they have been covering for him, whistleblowers describing how difficult meetings are with him, leadership advising he step down for the good of the party, discussions of cognitive decline, and demands for neurological tests.
And again, it was a MONOLITHIC SHIFT.
But it was surprisingly short-lived.
Was this the result of the forceful message from Biden to his big donors?
“I have one job, and that’s to beat Donald Trump. I’m absolutely certain I’m the best person to be able to do that. So, we’re done talking about the debate, it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye,” Biden said.
The infighting, however, continued for 5 more days.
Yet for some reason, with the assassination attempt against Donald Trump, all of a sudden, the conversation pretty much disappears.
Let me be clear. The issues still remain. Nothing has changed substantively.
But perhaps by NOT focusing on the current president, Americans’ attention will be sufficiently diverted by the newest big news story to forget what they witnessed at the debate, to forget what President Biden’s own party was saying about him, to forget what every single media outlet was reporting as though they were following a script.
And I know I should say something brilliant about what happened at the July 13 rally in Pennsylvania, but as they say, we shouldn't jump the gun. There is too much we don’t know yet.
What I do know: There will be an investigation. An investigation that has absolutely no meaning.
I liken it to the cocaine found at the White House. The Secret Service was unable to determine how the cocaine got there or who might have been responsible.
The logical assumption here is that the Secret Service in charge of that investigation was either complicit or incompetent. Either way, every single one should have been fired. They either are criminals themselves or they are incapable of doing their job. And it is an important job.
Yet here we are again. The facts we know:
There were shots fired.
Donald Trump’s ear was shot through.
Rally attendees were shot and have died.
There were multiple witnesses, camera angles, and participants in trying to help the victims.
There is a dead man on a roof a couple hundred yards away. A roof with a straight line of sight to the podium.
Can we believe any outcome of an investigation by a Secret Service that was either complicit or incompetent in the White House cocaine incident?
“The Secret Service confirms…” means absolutely nothing.
Can we believe any outcome from an investigation by an FBI who has been targeting Donald Trump (the intended victim of this assassination attempt) for eight years?
The results of any investigation directed by agencies of an administration that is intent on defeating its political opposition (again the intended target of the attempted assassination) by any means necessary cannot and never will be trusted.
In reality, this “incident’ (which was “damped down” by CNN at the outset), is even MORE reason for Biden to resign his candidacy. (To demonstrate impartiality, to advocate for what is best for the country, to remove a conflict of interest from the narrative.)
So why has the narrative shifted? The media response to the assassination attempt was “meh” at best.
I was driving in South Carolina when it happened, and my friend called to tell me. Then another friend called to tell me. Then I looked for something on X. Then I lost the signal. Then we searched every radio station (AM and FM both) – and there was NO REPORTING on “the incident”!
I remember the Hinckley/Reagan “Incident,” and it was everywhere. In real time. All regular programming was suspended (and this was before cable news!).
Granted, Donald Trump is not the sitting president, but he is the “next best thing” (former president and current GOP candidate who is most likely to win the election in November – especially with the shift in the media narrative after the presidential debate).
I have a feeling things are not going according to plan. Who’s plan? Anyone’s. Do I have any idea what that plan might be? No, but as I keep saying: “These are exciting times. I cannot wait to see what happens next.”**
But what happened? WHY has the pressure come off Joe Biden to resign his candidacy? Why has the media gone silent on this VERY IMPORTANT point? Is this a temporary distraction? Or is this the very distraction Joe Biden needed to put Trump back “in the Bullseye”?
What do YOU think?
And lastly…I did not attempt to relate all this to freedom – even thought that is what I say I try to do. But I could not let another day go by without posting SOMETHING.
Again, what do you think? If you made it this far, I hope you’ll leave a comment…
And…Next up…the GOP National Convention.
** God's plan is always executed to perfection...I am speaking of man's plans. I don't think things are going according to anyone's/any party's/any faction's plan.
